Bergman:
We watched a scene from the Seventh Seal, which had lots of references to religious symbols. Part of the story was this man's travels where he is beginning to understand the meaning of life. For the extent of the film, the man is playing an ongoing game of chess with Death which the man does this to delay his inevitable death. Are there any relationships betweeen Bergman's religious views and his outlook on afterlife and his representation of the film? Do other films by Bergman have any resemblance to the Seventh Seal?
Fellini:
The film 8 1/2 directed by Fellini actually has direct correspondance to Fellini's life. Before making this film, Fellini was trying to create a film but was stuck because the film just wasn't developing. He created this film as a sort of release, but the movie really took off and it quickly became one of Fellini's most memorable films. Are there any specific scenes within the film that directly resmble Fellini? and Did this film become popular because of its' resemblance of Fellini or simply because it was a good movie? or both?
Bresson:
Robert Bresson is most recognized for his film Pickpocket. The film follows pickpockets doing well...pickpocket stuff. The film does a good job following the pickpockets as they sneak around stealing things from unsuspecting people. When watching a scene from the film, I recognized that Bresson chose not to include any background music. Instead, he left the natural noises like clicking heels as the only sounds the audience can hear. Is this an effective way to portray the scene? Does it do a better job making the scene more realistic?
