Anna Karenina Clip
The scene “dance with me” from the 2012 film, “Anna Karenina” can be considered a significant clip from the movie because it involves the two main characters, Anna and Alexei Vronsky. Alexei Vronsky is wealthy military officer. The two meet at a train station prior to this scene and fall in love instantly. They cannot acknowledge their love however, because Anna is married to a rich, high ranking government official. At a ball in Moscow, the two see each other again, this time catching each other’s eyes several times before Alexei approaches Anna and demands that she dance with him. This scene’s cinematography is excellent because it uses eyelevel filming which makes it feel as if you are actually dancing with the characters. It also allows the viewer to be able to watch closely the movements of the dance, making it more elegant and personal. The distance the cameraman is away from the actors gives enough space that the audience can see the other dancers around the main couple, but also can focus on the main couple and keep tabs on them as they move through the crowd. A neat part of this clip is the way the couple moves over the ballroom floor. When they first begin to dance, all the other dancers become frozen, and as the main couple dance past they become unfrozen. This makes the moment seem timeless and magical as they dance as if in their own little world. The sounds used in this scene, like the music and party sounds are all diegetic sounds, implied to be heard by the entire cast.
