I watched House of Flying Daggers (2004), directed by Yimou Zhang. This individual film can be considered revolutionary for many reasons. One reason in particular, is the plot itself. House of Flying Daggers takes place in China during the reign of the Tang Dynasty. The title, stands for the secret organization of rebels who oppose the Tang government. This secret organization tries to overthrow the government and restore order to the Chinese people. This form of rebellion itself is revolutionary simply because the rebels are actually starting a revolution. Another reason the film is revolutionary, is that the main character, May, pretends to be blind for most of the film. It is only until the end, that the audience learns that she wasn't actually blind. It is revolutionary because the director did such a great job keeping the audience from even gathering the slightest hint that the girl was not really blind, making it an even bigger surprise. A scene in House of Flying Daggers that portrays the revolutionary theme, is the very beginning when it summarizes the war with the Tang Dynasty. The soldiers at the beginning talk about the rebel army and their attempts to squash the threat. The next scene introduces May, the blind girl, whom is not really blind. The scene is very beautiful with the many colors and authentic Chinese traditional clothing styles.
